Arguably the most devastating conflict every fought by the United States, the Civil War lasted four years and caused the deaths of over 600,000 people. What were the root causes of the conflict? Discuss.

Comment on the changes that took place in the United States in the early 1800s. List and describe at least two of the most important ones. Explain why the changes you describe affected life in the United States.
What do you know about the Constitution? Center your statements on the writing and ratification process, the Bill of Rights, the amendment process or how the Constitution affects you today.
Why did the framework of the Articles of Confederation make it difficult to govern the United States? How did the Articles change the colonists’ minds about the role of a central government?

In addition to the English, the Spanish and French had settlements in North America. Discuss either the French or the Spanish settlements. Compare and contrast the one you choose with the English colonies. Write about their way of life, government and economy.
